About this watch
DESCRIPTION & SIGNIFICANCE
Here is an exceptional and beautifully preserved vintage Rolex GMT-Master "Pepsi" Automatic Sports Watch Reference 1675, dating precisely to 1967. This specific example stands out as an incredibly honest example of the most iconic travel watch ever made, the reference that defined the jet age on the wrists of Pan Am pilots. Powered by the chronometer-certified 26 jewel Rolex Caliber 1575 automatic movement, this piece offers a phenomenal blend of classic Oyster case proportions, a completely original early matte "Long E" dial with gorgeous, even pumpkin patina, and a naturally faded Pepsi bezel full of vintage character. While the 1675 was produced for over two decades, finding an early matte dial example from the very start of the matte era, with lume, hands and bezel that have aged together in harmony, makes this a highly desirable "honest survivor" for vintage Rolex collectors.
CONDITION & COMPONENTS
Overall Grade: Very good pre-owned vintage timepiece. Unrestored (Dial), Previously Polished Case
Originality: Original Mark 1 "Long E" matte dial, never refinished. The hour, minute, seconds and GMT hands are original tritium and have aged to the same tone as the dial plots. Case serial number is consistent with 1967 production and with the early matte dial.
Key Wear Notes: The case has been polished at various point in its life. Some lume has come away from the arrow of the GMT hand and it has been left untouched rather than relumed. The bezel insert shows honest marks and natural fading from decades of authentic wear.
MOVEMENT & PERFORMANCE
Caliber Engine: Automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1575 GMT, featuring 26 Jewels, Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified. (19,800 vph)
Movement Design: Rolex's legendary four-hand GMT movement, built on the robust 1570 architecture with an added 24-hour wheel driving the independent GMT hand, allowing a second time zone to be read against the rotating bezel.
Service History: Fully serviced September 2026
Metrics: Daily 0 sec per/day, Amplitude 255, Beat Error 0.4 ms
Functionality: Hours, minutes, sweeping center seconds, 24-hour GMT hand and date.
DIAL & HANDS
Variant & Condition: Correct original factory matte black Mark 1 "Long E" dial, named for the "E" in ROLEX whose middle bar is as long as the top and bottom bars, a feature of the earliest matte GMT-Master dials. White printed coronet, "ROLEX OYSTER PERPETUAL" above center, and "GMT-MASTER / SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER / OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED" below center. Triangle marker at 12, batons at 3, 6 and 9, and raised round plots.
Lume & Aging: Original tritium plots, marked "SWISS – T<25" at the very bottom edge. Every plot has aged to a rich, even pumpkin patina that matches the handset perfectly.
UV Reaction:
Hand Set: All hands are original and period-correct: the Mercedes hour hand, sword minute hand, sweeping center seconds hand and the early small-arrow red GMT hand, all with original tritium aged alongside the dial. Partial lume loss on the GMT arrow.
CASE, BEZEL & CRYSTAL
Dimensions: Approx. 40mm, 20mm lug width
Case & Lugs: Stainless steel Oyster case with rounded crown guards and a screw-down Twinlock crown. Previously polished.
Components: Reference 1675 between the lugs at 12 and case serial between the lugs at 6.
Bezel & Crystal: Bidirectional 24-hour rotating bezel with the iconic blue and red "Pepsi" aluminum insert. The blue has faded beautifully to a soft sky blue while the red has kept its depth, a natural aging that cannot be reproduced. Fitted with an acrylic crystal and Cyclops date magnifier.
BRACELET & ACCESSORIES
Fit & Wear: Paired with a Rolex 6251H Jubilee bracelet with a clasp dated 1970. A correct-era bracelet for the 1675, though not the one this case originally left the factory on. End links are unsigned. Please note, the bracelet contains a couple aftermarket fold over jubilee links that were added to make the watch fit up to an 8" wrist.
COLLECTOR NOTES
Provenance & Box/Papers: No box or papers. Watch only.
Vintage Disclaimer: This is a vintage, pre-owned timepiece with roughly 59 years of history. It is an honest, used object and is not cosmetically perfect. It displays character marks, micro-scratches, and component aging consistent with its era.
A Note on Our Photography: To provide the most transparent representation possible, our watches are photographed using high-resolution macro photography. We intentionally photograph our watches this way so you can evaluate each piece in greater detail than you typically could in person. Please keep in mind that macro images can make minor signs of wear appear significantly more prominent than they are at normal viewing distance.
Please perform due diligence by carefully examining all high-resolution photographs and macro images provided to ensure this piece fully meets your personal condition standards before making a purchase.
